AIJRF Kicks off the 3rd of Artificial Intelligence Journalism World Forum

Dubai – AIJRF: Artificial Intelligence Journalism for Research and Forecasting (AIJRF), the leading global think tank and organization dedicated to researching, forecasting in AI and Media, has kicked off in Dubai the third edition of the Artificial Intelligence Journalism World Forum (AIJWF), in cooperation The UAE Journalists Association (UAEJA), the “Emirates Vision Foundation” and the UAE Social Media Pioneers Association.

The two-days forum, which witnessed the presence and sponsorship of Sheikh Sultan bin Rashid Al Nuaimi on the first day, gathers a range of scholars, journalists, artificial intelligence (AI) enthusiasts, AI solutions companies, academic establishments and government authorities .

Opening Session

The opening session, which was moderated by the TV Presenter Naoufar Ramool from the Dubai Media Corporation, has hosted the Egyptian scientist, Professor Farouk El-Baz, Director of the Remote Sensing Center (RSC) at Boston University, and Dr. Mohamed Abdulzaher, the CEO of the AIJRF and the president of AIJWF, in addition to three speakers of local universities, including: Professor Abdullatif Al Shamsi, Dr. Saeed Al Dhaheri, and Dr. Ahmad Al Mansouri.

The Egyptian scientist, El-Baz stressed on the importance of Arab youth keeping pace with all the developments of artificial intelligence and metaverse. He pointed out also to the proactive role of UAE that gives opportunities to Arab youth who are known with distinguished ability to acquire knowledge, science and culture from all over the world.

He added that media has got an important role in clarifying the concept of AI, tools and its functions, praising the efforts of the AIJRF in keeping the Arab journalists and content makers connected with the technologies and tools of the twenty-first century. “The Arabic language can deal with artificial intelligence simply, just as the media content dealt with it by creating rich content to the Arab world. As well as, artificial intelligence can enter all the fields, and there is no fear of that, as it is known for its high security and ability to save information and data due to the protection and privacy characteristics of the artificial intelligence.” Prof. Al Bazz said.

Dr. Mohamed Abdulzaher, CEO of the AIJRF and President of the World Forum, highlighted the recent importance of artificial intelligence technology in the media industry, commenting: “In the last five years, the UAE has achieved an Arab precedent as well as a global leadership position in the optimal application of artificial intelligence technologies.”

He stressed saying: “The world invested more than a trillion dollars last year in the metaverse industry, and the UAE was the first Arab country in thr world to open more than 15,000 job opportunities in this emerging sector, and all media, educational and service institutions must move forward to utilize these technologies to reach a qualitative audience and services.” 

Dr. Abdul Latif Al Shamsi, Former President of the Higher Colleges of Technology, added that AI technologies have become enabling means to generate images, content, etc., which will contribute in helping the field of media, especially journalists and editors. Thus, it has led to change educational methods with students from focusing on the theoretical side, to developing skills such as critical thinking, analysis and conclusion among students in the educational stage to qualify them to employ artificial intelligence and metaverse techniques. He said, “The use of AI and metaverse technologies will gradually mature over time, just as the use of social media platforms matured when they appeared.”

Dr. Saeed Al Dhaheri, a professor at the University of Dubai, added: “Knowing the ethics of AI and intellectual property rights have become an important aspect for every journalist and writer, especially with the fake news and visual content that is going viral, and the ability of AI intelligence to write a book, which has been considered as a risk for many. He stressed that AI will not replace humans in practice, and that whoever was able to learn the machine and how to deal with it was able to keep his job.

Whereas, Dr. Ahmed Al-Mansoori, a member of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Journalists Association, pointed out that the journalist need to develop his skills, and the students’ need to develop his educational skills, that does not stop after graduation, but rather it is a continuous process, and he indicated to investment engineering as one of the most important skills required to work in AI.

AIJWF is the first global platform and an annual event, which brings together academics, media professionals, AI development companies, educational institutions, and government entities to forecast the Fourth and Fifth Industrial Revolutions technologies and its impact on the future of human, the media industry and future cities.

The first edition of (AIJWF) was kicked off in March 2021, and chaired by Professor Farouk El-Baz, an Egyptian American space scientist and geologist, Director of the Center for Remote Sensing at Boston University, U.S.A, with the participation of more than 50 universities and research centers and more than 200 researchers and journalists from 20 different countries.

Artificial Intelligence Journalism for Research and Forecasting (AIJRF) is a Think Tank established in the United Arab Emirates in 2018, founded by  Dr. Mohamed Abdulzaher, a pioneer in Artificial Intelligence Journalism and Media of Metaverse and  a group of professors and researchers specializing in artificial intelligence (AI) and the future of Humans 2050, and the Fourth and Fifth Industrial Revolutions.
